How to retrieve your emails using Outlook Express
> Printer friendly version of this page
The following are instructions for Microsoft Outlook Express. For general help on emails please visit our Email Accounts page.
To set up a new Microsoft Outlook Express mail account
- Open Microsoft Outlook Express.
- Click on Tools > Accounts
- Click the Mail tab to open a list of your mail accounts.
- Click the Add > button and select the Mail option.
- Enter your name as you want it to appear in any messages you send, and click Next.
- Type your e-mail address, for example, your.name@your-domain.com, and click Next.
- Select the protocol of your incoming mail server. This should be POP3 and pre-selected.
- Specify the mail. domain name as both the incoming and outgoing mail server (for example, mail.your-domain.com), and click Next.
- Some Internet Service Providers however will not allow you to use a third party outgoing mail server. You may need to change the outgoing mail server to your provider's. You can usually easily find this at their website. Dont worry at this stage. When you test the settings you will get an error message which will clearly tell you the outgoing mail server you should use. Use the section further down this page How to check or modify your mail settings in Outlook Express to help you later edit this setting.
- Type your e-mail address in the Account name box, for example, your.name@your-domain.com
- Type your password which has been given to you by art71.
- Leave the Remember password box checked, if you do not wish to be prompted to enter password each time your e-mail program connects to the mail server to check for new mail, and click Next.
- Leave the box Log on using secure Password Authentication unticked.
- To complete setting up your e-mail program, click Finish.
To configure Outlook Express to enable secure server authentication
- Open Outlook Express and click on Tools > Accounts
- Click the Mail tab and select your new mail account.
- Click Properties button on the right-hand side.
- Click the Servers tab.
- Put a checkmark by My Server Requires Authentication at the bottom of the page.
- Click the Settings button.
- Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
- Click OK.
- Click Apply.
How to check or modify your mail settings in Outlook Express
- Open Outlook Express and click on Tools > Accounts
- Click the Mail tab and select your new mail account.
- Click Properties, the third button down on the right-hand side.
- Click the Servers tab.
